Program overview
The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diploma is an eight-month preparatory certificate aimed at entry to Humber’s two-year health diplomas and certificates rather than its degrees and advanced diplomas.
Content covers foundational biology and human body systems, introductory chemistry, mathematics for health programs, anatomy and physiology basics, medical terminology, health sciences communication, and academic skills for science study. The academic level is calibrated to diploma-entry requirements, which is why it is priced below the degree-pathway version.
Choose between the two pre-health certificates by target program, not by price. This one prepares for practical nursing, personal support work, pharmacy technician and similar credentials; the degree-pathway version is the correct choice for nursing degrees, sonography, respiratory therapy and medical laboratory technology. Enrolling in the wrong one wastes eight months.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
Its field maps to CIP 51.0000 (Health services preparatory studies). Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply. As a short preparatory certificate this is not a standalone employment or immigration credential. Humber publishes a PGWP-eligible program list with CIP codes; check it, and confirm with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. IRCC makes the final decision.
What it costs per year ยท indicative
Living cost is an estimate; tuition is the institute's published international fee. We confirm exact, current figures before you pay anything.
Do you qualify?
These are the published minimums. Whether your profile fits โ with your marks, gap and budget โ is exactly what a free counsellor check confirms.
Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: Completed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with a minimum 50% overall.
- Subject requirements: Grade 12 English.
- IELTS: Overall 6.0, no band below 5.5
- TOEFL iBT: Total 80
- PTE Academic: Overall 53
- Duolingo: 105
- GRE/GMAT: Not required.
Application fee $100 CAD, plus an initial tuition deposit of $2,000 CAD — Humber will not request your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) until that deposit clears, so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps. Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.

Career opportunities
A stepping-stone credential, not an employment qualification:
- Entry to Practical Nursing — the two-year RPN diploma
- Entry to Personal Support Worker — the one-year certificate
- Entry to Pharmacy Technician — the two-year diploma
- Entry to Medical Laboratory Assistant — the one-year certificate
- Entry to OTA/PTA — the rehabilitation assistant diploma
- Health support roles — only after completing a follow-on credential
Confirm which pre-health stream your target program requires before enrolling — they are not interchangeable.
