College Diploma - Mechanical Engineering Technician

The Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma is a two-year program covering the design, drafting and testing side of mechanical systems.

Students work through engineering drawing and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, computer-aided design in industry-standard packages, statics and strength of materials, materials science and heat treatment, manufacturing processes including machining, welding and forming, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics fundamentals, quality control and metrology, and computer-aided manufacturing with CNC programming. Shop and lab time is substantial — students make and measure parts, not just draw them.

CAD competence alone is widely available; what makes this credential employable is the combination of drawing skill with manufacturing process knowledge and measurement discipline. Designers who understand how a part will actually be made produce drawings that can be manufactured, which is the difference employers notice first.

Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
