Program overview
The Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning graduate certificate is a one-year applied postgraduate program for students with a programming or quantitative background.
Content covers Python for data science, mathematics and statistics for machine learning, data preparation and feature engineering, supervised learning including regression and classification, unsupervised methods and clustering, neural networks and deep learning frameworks, natural language processing, computer vision fundamentals, model evaluation and deployment, and the ethical and governance dimensions of AI systems. Assessment is project-based against real datasets.
The applied framing is important. This is not a research program — it trains people to build, evaluate and deploy models using existing frameworks, which is what the overwhelming majority of AI jobs actually involve. Applicants without prior programming will struggle; those with it will find one year sufficient to reach hireable competence.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
Its field maps to CIP 11.0102 (Artificial intelligence). Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply. Humber publishes a PGWP-eligible program list with CIP codes; check it, and confirm with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. IRCC makes the final decision.
What it costs per year ยท indicative
Living cost is an estimate; tuition is the institute's published international fee. We confirm exact, current figures before you pay anything.
Do you qualify?
These are the published minimums. Whether your profile fits โ with your marks, gap and budget โ is exactly what a free counsellor check confirms.
Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: A completed 2-year undergraduate diploma or higher from a recognised institution, with a minimum 50% overall.
- Program-specific: A programming or quantitative background is expected — applicants are assessed on prior coursework.
- IELTS: Overall 6.5, no band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT: Total 88
- PTE Academic: Overall 61
- Duolingo: 125
- GRE/GMAT: Not required.
Application fee $100 CAD, plus an initial tuition deposit of $2,000 CAD — Humber will not request your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) until that deposit clears, so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps. Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.

Career opportunities
AI and machine learning roles have expanded across Toronto’s tech and financial sectors:
- Machine Learning Engineer — model development and deployment
- Data Scientist — analysis and predictive modelling
- Data Analyst — the most common realistic entry role
- AI Application Developer — integrating models into products
- MLOps Engineer — pipeline and deployment infrastructure
- Business Intelligence Developer — reporting and analytics platforms
- Research Assistant — applied AI groups
Toronto is a genuine global AI research hub — but most graduate hiring is in applied and analyst roles.
