Program overview
The Master of Computer Science – Cybersecurity Operations and Management is a two-year master’s degree with a work placement, and one of only two master’s programs Humber offers at the North campus.
The program sits deliberately at the intersection of technical security and management. Coursework covers advanced cryptography and secure systems design, security operations centre practice and threat intelligence, incident response and forensic investigation, penetration testing and vulnerability management, cloud and container security, security architecture, governance frameworks and regulatory compliance, risk quantification, and security leadership including budgeting, team management and board reporting. Research methods and an applied capstone complete it.
For international students this credential carries two advantages no diploma can match. As a master’s degree it is exempt from the PGWP field-of-study restriction, and under current IRCC rules master’s students are among the few whose spouses may qualify for an open work permit. Verify both against current rules before planning.
The work placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.
Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.
Its field maps to CIP 11.1003 (Computer and information systems security). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. As a master’s degree it also carries spouse open work permit eligibility under current rules. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: A completed 4-year Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum 50% overall.
- Program-specific: A computing, engineering or quantitative background is expected. Note this program is offered in a hybrid format — students taking online courses must be full-time and physically present in Canada.
- IELTS: Overall 6.5, no band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT: Total 88
- PTE Academic: Overall 61
- Duolingo: 125
- GRE/GMAT: Not required.
Application fee $100 CAD, plus an initial tuition deposit of $2,000 CAD — Humber will not request your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) until that deposit clears, so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps. Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.
