Program overview

The Master of Engineering – Advanced Manufacturing Engineering is a two-year master’s degree and one of only two master’s programs Humber runs at the North campus.

The program addresses manufacturing as it is being rebuilt around automation and data. Coursework covers advanced manufacturing processes including additive manufacturing, industrial automation and robotics systems, digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 architectures, manufacturing data analytics and machine monitoring, quality engineering and statistical process control, lean and operations management, supply chain and production planning, sustainability in manufacturing, engineering research methods, and an applied capstone or industry project.

For international students this credential carries two structural advantages. As a master’s degree it is exempt from the PGWP field-of-study restriction, and under current IRCC rules master’s students are among the few whose spouses may qualify for an open work permit. Canada’s manufacturing sector is also under active policy pressure to modernise, which supports demand for exactly this skill set.

Humber Polytechnic — formerly Humber College — is Ontario’s largest public college and a Designated Learning Institution (DLI O19376943122). The North campus in Etobicoke is its main site, running technology, engineering, health science, business and skilled trades programs in purpose-built labs and shops rather than lecture halls, with three intakes a year and the deepest employer network in the Greater Toronto Area.

Its field maps to CIP 14.3501 (Industrial engineering). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. As a master’s degree it also carries spouse open work permit eligibility under current rules. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.

Admission requirements

Who can apply (guide for international students):

  • Education: A completed 4-year Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum 50% overall.
  • Program-specific: An engineering, engineering technology or applied science background is expected. Note this program is offered in a hybrid format — students taking online courses must be full-time and physically present in Canada.
  • IELTS: Overall 6.5, no band below 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: Total 88
  • PTE Academic: Overall 61
  • Duolingo: 125
  • GRE/GMAT: Not required.

Application fee $100 CAD, plus an initial tuition deposit of $2,000 CAD — Humber will not request your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) until that deposit clears, so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps. Ask an Apply Study Visa counsellor to confirm current fees, seats and PGWP status before applying.
