Program overview
Would you like to study international business in the city where Canada’s trade policy is made? IBU offers its Master of Business Administration in Global Business Management at its Ottawa campus on Bank Street, in the Glebe neighbourhood, as a 42 credit MBA of four semesters that takes about 16 months.
The Ottawa cohort follows the same curriculum as Toronto. Semester one covers Financial Management, Business Analytics, Organizational Behaviour: Leading in a Diverse Environment and Marketing and Social Media, and semester two adds Global Trade and Finance to Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Information Technology and Digital Transformation and Research Methods. Required specialisation courses in Global Supply Chain Management, Strategy (For Tech Management) and Regulatory Environments, Ethics and CSR are joined by an elective such as Managing Multinational Firms or Global Business Service Management.
You finish with a capstone of your choice, a consulting project, a business plan or a major research paper, which Ottawa students can aim at export, trade policy or public procurement questions. Classes run about two days a week on campus, leaving time for independent study. Ottawa is home to federal departments, trade associations and embassies, and to a large technology cluster in Kanata, which gives global business graduates an unusual range of employers.
Graduates aim for roles such as trade and export coordinator, international business development manager, procurement specialist, supply chain analyst and market analyst with organisations that work across borders. The Ottawa campus also offers a smaller, quieter setting than downtown Toronto, and the capital’s rents sit below those of the Greater Toronto Area.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: A recognised three year bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least 60 percent, in any discipline. GMAT and GRE are not required. IBU asks for official transcripts, a letter of intent and, where needed, a WES or ICAS evaluation.
- English (meet any one): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 83 with no section below 20 (Home Edition and MyBest scores are not accepted); PTE Academic 60; the Duolingo English Test at 105; CAEL 70 with no band below 60; CELPIP 7 with no band below 7; or Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at 175 with no component below 170. Scores must be less than two years old.
- Tuition and deposit: IBU lists international MBA tuition at CAD 9,800 a semester plus CAD 415 in fees that include e-books, about CAD 40,860 for the four semesters. A deposit is paid to receive the letter of acceptance, and each semester is paid before it starts. Mandatory GuardMe health cover costs about CAD 765 a year. Refunds carry a CAD 500 processing fee.
- Scholarship: No bursary is currently open to Indian applicants for this MBA. IBU’s MBA Head Start Bursary of CAD 5,000 is limited to a list of about 90 countries that does not include India, the Advancement Bursary is only for students from the Philippines and Vietnam, and the IBU Financial Aid Program is for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Budget the full tuition.
- Study permit: IBU is a private university, so you need a provincial attestation letter from Ontario with your study permit application. The January 2026 exemption for master’s and doctoral students applies only to public institutions and does not cover IBU.
- Work rights: IBU holds ministerial consent to award this MBA, so it is PGWP eligible; as a master’s degree of at least eight months it supports a work permit of up to three years. The PGWP needs a CLB 7 language result in all four skills. At 16 months, the programme meets IRCC’s rule for a spouse or common-law partner to apply for an open work permit.
