Program overview
Planning to launch a startup or lead innovation in Canada’s capital? IBU runs its Master of Business Administration in Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Ottawa campus on Bank Street as a four semester MBA of 42 credits, completed in about 16 months with around two days a week in class.
Ottawa students take the same courses as the Toronto cohort. Financial Management, Business Analytics, Organizational Behaviour: Leading in a Diverse Environment and Marketing and Social Media open the programme, followed by Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Information Technology and Digital Transformation, Research Methods and Communications, Interpersonal Skills and Negotiation. In semester three, Strategy (For Tech Management) and Macroeconomics are required, and two electives come from options such as Business Planning, Financing and Valuing Ventures, Technology Trends and Applications and Business Process and System Design.
The fourth semester lets you decide how to finish: a consulting project with an organisation, the business plan for your own venture, or a major research paper. Ottawa’s technology base, from the Kanata North tech park to software firms and federal digital services, offers real problems for innovation projects, and the capital’s startup support network gives founders people to pitch to. IBU’s MBA is accredited by NCMA, and the university belongs to the AACSB Business Education Alliance.
The stream fits founders, engineers and technology graduates who want to move into product management, innovation consulting, business development or venture roles, and managers who want to lead digital change inside established organisations in and around Ottawa. It also suits students who prefer a smaller cohort and a quieter city while they develop a venture.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: A recognised three year bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least 60 percent, in any discipline. GMAT and GRE are not required. IBU asks for official transcripts, a letter of intent and, where needed, a WES or ICAS evaluation.
- English (meet any one): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 83 with no section below 20 (Home Edition and MyBest scores are not accepted); PTE Academic 60; the Duolingo English Test at 105; CAEL 70 with no band below 60; CELPIP 7 with no band below 7; or Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at 175 with no component below 170. Scores must be less than two years old.
- Tuition and deposit: IBU lists international MBA tuition at CAD 9,800 a semester plus CAD 415 in fees that include e-books, about CAD 40,860 for the four semesters. A deposit is paid to receive the letter of acceptance, and each semester is paid before it starts. Mandatory GuardMe health cover costs about CAD 765 a year. Refunds carry a CAD 500 processing fee.
- Scholarship: No bursary is currently open to Indian applicants for this MBA. IBU’s MBA Head Start Bursary of CAD 5,000 is limited to a list of about 90 countries that does not include India, the Advancement Bursary is only for students from the Philippines and Vietnam, and the IBU Financial Aid Program is for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Budget the full tuition.
- Study permit: IBU is a private university, so you need a provincial attestation letter from Ontario with your study permit application. The January 2026 exemption for master’s and doctoral students applies only to public institutions and does not cover IBU.
- Work rights: IBU holds ministerial consent to award this MBA, so it is PGWP eligible; as a master’s degree of at least eight months it supports a work permit of up to three years. The PGWP needs a CLB 7 language result in all four skills. At 16 months, the programme meets IRCC’s rule for a spouse or common-law partner to apply for an open work permit.
