Program overview
Interested in putting artificial intelligence to work on factory floors, robots and service operations? IBU’s Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence with a specialisation in Industrial Innovation is a 42 credit, four semester programme of about 16 months, taught in person at the Toronto campus. Ontario granted consent for the programme for a five year term starting in March 2026, making it one of IBU’s newest degrees.
The first semester builds your AI foundations through Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Data Science and Data Mining Techniques and Human-Computer Interaction Design. The specialisation follows in semester two with Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Services, Emerging Artificial Intelligence Industries and Ventures, Industrial Automation, Manufacturing Innovation, and Sustainability, and Robotics for Service Innovation. Semester three adds Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity and Applied Research Methods, with two electives chosen from Information Systems and Digital Transformation, Project Management: Social-Technical Approach and Advanced Business Analytics.
You learn to develop and deploy automation solutions, integrate robotics into real workflows and judge where AI helps and where it does not, with ethical design built into the process. The degree closes with a six credit Capstone Project in Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Innovation that gives you a portfolio piece to show employers. Applicants who are missing Python, linear algebra, calculus or statistics can take IBU’s bridging courses before they start.
Career paths include automation engineer, industrial innovation specialist, robotics and AI integration manager, manufacturing data analyst and operations consultant, across Ontario’s manufacturing, logistics and advanced technology sectors.

Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: A four year honours bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, mathematical economics or computing, or another degree with a strong STEM background, with at least 60 percent. You need linear algebra, statistics and programming in Python, Java or a similar language; applicants without them complete IBU’s bridging courses first. An interview, portfolio or references may be requested.
- English (meet any one): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 83 with no section below 20 (Home Edition and MyBest scores are not accepted); PTE Academic 60; the Duolingo English Test at 105; CAEL 70 with no band below 60; CELPIP 7 with no band below 7; or Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at 175 with no component below 170. Scores must be less than two years old.
- Tuition and deposit: Tuition is recorded at CAD 18,500 a year; confirm the current MSc fee with IBU, which publishes it on a separate graduate fee page. A deposit is paid to receive the letter of acceptance, and each semester is paid before it starts. Mandatory GuardMe health cover costs about CAD 765 a year. Refunds carry a CAD 500 processing fee.
- Scholarship: IBU does not publish an entrance scholarship or bursary for the MSc in Applied AI that is open to Indian applicants, so budget the full tuition and ask IBU whether any award applies to your intake.
- Study permit: IBU is a private university, so you need a provincial attestation letter from Ontario with your study permit application. The January 2026 exemption for master’s and doctoral students applies only to public institutions and does not cover IBU.
- Work rights: Ontario consented to this MSc in March 2026, so it is PGWP eligible; as a master’s degree it supports a work permit of up to three years. The PGWP needs a CLB 7 language result in all four skills. At 16 months, the programme meets IRCC’s rule for a spouse or common-law partner to apply for an open work permit.
