Program overview
Why does one advert go viral while another is scrolled past in a second? Lakeland College’s Business Administration: Marketing Major is a two-year, four-semester diploma taught at the Lloydminster campus, with September or January starts, for students who want to understand buyers and build the campaigns that reach them.
Your first year gives you the same grounding as every Lakeland business major, and MK 170 Marketing Principles is where the marketing thread begins. Year 2 of the Marketing Major turns to e-commerce, consumer behaviour, global marketing and marketing research, so you learn why people buy, how to sell online, how to adapt a brand for other countries and how to gather and interpret market data. Three electives let you add areas such as social media or public relations.
Marketing Major students sharpen their pitching through Synergy Speakers’ Corner, Lakeland’s public speaking and leadership club, and meet Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce members at Chamber Connect networking events. With one extra year you can add a second Lakeland major, or move into an Athabasca University Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Management on campus. Block transfer agreements with NAIT, Okanagan College, the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan carry 60 credits.
Marketing graduates become social media specialists, e-commerce marketing professionals, account managers, advertising specialists, public relations specialists and event managers for advertising and marketing agencies, media outlets, sports organisations, credit unions and non-profits. The Marketing Major suits curious, creative communicators who also enjoy researching audiences and measuring whether a campaign actually worked.
