Picture yourself running a treatment room, moving from a gel manicure to a hot rock massage before lunch. Lakeland College’s Esthetician certificate is a one-year, two-semester programme taught face to face at the Lloydminster campus, and it puts you in front of real spa clients while you are still a student.

The ten Esthetician courses start with HS 160 Introduction to Esthetics and HS 163 Skin Anatomy & Physiology, so you understand the skin before you treat it. HS 164 Consultation & Analysis and HS 165 Diseases & Pharmacology teach you to assess each client and spot conditions that need care. Practical skills come through HS 161 Pedicure, Manicure, Wax & Tint Lab, HS 162 Colour & Makeup Lab, HS 166 Skin Care Lab, HS 167 Facials Lab and HS 169 Basic Massage Techniques Lab, while HS 168 Advanced Clinical Skin Care & Business Practices adds the retail and business side of esthetics.

Most of your practice happens in Lakeland’s student-managed day spa in Lloydminster, where you book clients, deliver body wraps and scrubs, waxing, lash and brow tints and makeup artistry, and learn to run the spa with your classmates. Esthetician students can also compete in provincial skills competitions. After graduating, you can add a third semester through Lakeland’s Clinical Esthetician certificate or move on to the Hairstyling certificate.

Lakeland’s esthetics graduates work as health spa estheticians, medi-spa estheticians, resort and cruise line estheticians, makeup artists and product marketing or retail sales representatives, and some open their own studios. This certificate suits people who enjoy close client contact, careful hand work and the idea of one day running a beauty business of their own.
