Bachelor of Business Administration

Picture yourself planning the budget for a family farm, a charity or a young start-up. The Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration is a four-year BBA from Providence’s Buller School of Business, taught on the Otterburne campus, a residential rural campus in southern Manitoba where business students live and study alongside every other Providence faculty.

Students open the BBA with Introduction to Management or Introduction to Business, and a grade of C+ or higher in one of them is required to enter the major. From there the degree covers Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Consumer Behaviour and Management Information Systems, then moves into Corporate Finance, Commercial Law and International Business. Entrepreneurship and Small and Family Business Management prepare students to launch or run an owner-managed firm, while Studies in Leadership, Ethics and Global Problems & Change look at the wider responsibilities of a business leader.

The Buller School describes a professional learning environment that mirrors the world of business, and BBA students gain hands-on experience by taking part in numerous business initiatives. The programme brings together Christianity with business principles, so ethics sits inside every management discussion. Students wanting a sharper focus can compare the Business and Agriculture stream, which includes 30 credit hours through the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, and the NGO stream for intercultural service. Teaching staff include Dean Donna Jones, MD, MBA, and assistant professors Adetutu Oyerinde and Sneetha Saji.

Providence lists accounting, administration, business management, marketing, agri-business and programme coordination as graduate paths, and some alumni start their own ventures or move on to graduate study. Likely first roles include office administrator, marketing assistant, accounting clerk and assistant manager. The standard BBA suits a student who wants four uninterrupted academic years of business study on a small campus, without stepping out for work terms.
