Information Security

When a hospital network is breached or a payroll system is held to ransom, someone has to know what to do next. RRC Polytech’s Information Security programme is a two-year post-graduate diploma for people who already hold an IT credential and want to lead that response. It is delivered at the Exchange District Campus downtown, in Manitou a bi Bii daziigae, with a single September intake, and full-time students can complete its four terms in 16 months.

Term 1 builds the governance base through IT Security Risk Management, Security Architecture and Design, and Security Service Delivery. Term 2 continues with Security Program Management, Vulnerability Management and Ethical Hacking, and Security Resiliency Planning. In Term 3 you take Advanced Security Infrastructure, Managing Security Operations, and Digital Forensics and Incident Response. The final term pairs Security and AI with Governance, Audit and Compliance, and finishes with an Industry Project.

Information Security is taught through practical application of advanced security frameworks and methodologies that comply with regulatory requirements. A 90-hour work-integrated learning component runs during Term 4, alongside classes, and can be done with a current or alternate employer or with entrepreneurs in RRC Polytech’s ACE Project Space. Entry expects a certificate, diploma or degree in information technology, such as a computer science or engineering degree, or at least one year of relevant IT or security work.

Graduates move into roles such as security analyst, security operations centre analyst, governance, risk and compliance analyst, vulnerability management specialist, incident response analyst or security architect in banks, government, health authorities and managed security providers. The programme suits working IT professionals and recent IT graduates who want to shift from running systems to protecting them.
