IT Operations

Behind every working login, restored backup and quickly closed help ticket is an IT operations team keeping the business running. RRC Polytech’s IT Operations diploma trains you for that team in 20 months across four terms at the Exchange District Campus in downtown Winnipeg, with classes held in the Roblin Centre.

First-year courses include IT Foundations, IT Service Management, IT Architecture and Design and Customer Experience, followed by IT Operations Foundations, IT Service Desk and Customer Support, People, Process and Technology and Security Foundations, with a communication course in each term. In the second year you study Cloud Infrastructure, IT Service Delivery and Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, and choose an elective from Networking for IT Operations, Endpoint Administration, Transforming Data Into Databases and Introduction to Data Science and Machine Learning. Together they cover managing software, hardware, cloud services, storage, security and help desks.

The Exchange District Campus gives IT Operations students a networking lab with equipment for hands-on practice, computer labs and the ACE Project Space for collaborative work on real problems. Term 4 is a choice between IT Operations Co-op, a paid placement in the final term with a limited number of positions assigned competitively, and the IT Operations Industry Project with a local organisation, so every student finishes with applied experience. You bring your own laptop built to the programme’s higher specification.

Graduates work as IT help desk associates, desktop support technicians, IT operations analysts, infrastructure systems analysts, technical support specialists and client success managers in companies, public bodies and managed service providers. The diploma suits patient problem-solvers who enjoy helping people as much as configuring systems and want a broad, service-focused IT career.
