Program overview
The Electronics Engineering Technology advanced diploma is the three-year technologist credential in electronics, with an optional co-op stream.
The technician foundation — circuit analysis, analogue and digital electronics, microcontrollers, instrumentation — extends in the third year into design territory: advanced embedded systems and real-time programming, communication systems and signal processing, control systems, PCB design for manufacture, power electronics, wireless and networked device design, and a capstone taking an electronic system from specification through prototype to test.
Embedded systems is the strategic content. Connected devices, industrial sensors and control hardware sit in almost every sector now, and engineers who can work across hardware and firmware are harder to recruit than either specialism alone. OACETT certification is the Ontario professional route for technologists — worth planning for at graduation.
The optional co-op stream is worth taking if offered: paid Canadian work experience before graduation improves hiring outcomes and Express Entry points, and co-op students frequently convert a placement into a full-time offer.
Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.
Seneca Polytechnic — formerly Seneca College — is one of Ontario’s largest public colleges and a Designated Learning Institution. Newnham is its biggest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology, engineering technology, aviation and applied science catalogue. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.
Its field maps to CIP 15.0303 (Electrical and electronic engineering technology). Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply. Seneca publishes a PGWP-eligible program list; check it, and confirm with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. IRCC makes the final decision.
What it costs per year ยท indicative
Living cost is an estimate; tuition is the institute's published international fee. We confirm exact, current figures before you pay anything.
Do you qualify?
These are the published minimums. Whether your profile fits โ with your marks, gap and budget โ is exactly what a free counsellor check confirms.
Admission requirements
Who can apply (guide for international students):
- Education: Completed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with a minimum 50% overall.
- Subject requirements: Grade 12 English, Grade 12 Mathematics and Grade 12 Physics or an equivalent technology subject.
- IELTS: Overall 6.0, no band below 5.5
- TOEFL iBT: Total 80
- PTE Academic: Overall 58
- Duolingo: 105
- GRE/GMAT: Not required.
Application fee $90 CAD. A tuition deposit is required to confirm your seat and to trigger your Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), so deposit timing drives your study-permit timeline — confirm the current amount with an Apply Study Visa counsellor. Admissions run on a rolling basis and popular programs fill months ahead under Canada’s international seat caps.

Career opportunities
Technologist-level electronics roles carry design responsibility:
- Electronics Technologist — design and development support
- Embedded Systems Developer — firmware and device programming
- Test Engineering Technologist — validation and qualification
- Hardware Design Technologist — PCB and circuit design
- Applications Engineer — component and equipment vendors
- Automation Systems Technologist — industrial control
- Certified Engineering Technologist — after OACETT certification
Embedded and firmware skills carry a meaningful salary premium over pure hardware roles.
