Program overview
The Hospitality Foundations certificate is an eight-month introduction to hotel, restaurant and tourism service operations.
Content covers hospitality industry structure and career paths, guest service standards and communication, front office and reservations basics, food and beverage service, housekeeping operations, food safety and handling certification, point-of-sale and property management systems, teamwork in service environments, and workplace health and safety.
Set expectations correctly: eight months produces a competent entry-level service employee, not a manager. It suits students who want to enter the industry quickly or who intend to ladder into the two-year Hospitality – Hotel and Restaurant Services Management diploma, which carries the revenue management and financial content that leads to supervisory progression. For international students the longer diploma also supports a longer Post-Graduation Work Permit.
Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.
Seneca Polytechnic — formerly Seneca College — is one of Ontario’s largest public colleges and a Designated Learning Institution. Newnham is its biggest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology, engineering technology, aviation and applied science catalogue. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.
Its field maps to CIP 52.0901 (Hospitality administration and management). Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply. Seneca publishes a PGWP-eligible program list; check it, and confirm with an Apply Study Visa counsellor before committing. IRCC makes the final decision.
What it costs per year · indicative
Living cost is an estimate; tuition is the institute's published international fee. We confirm exact, current figures before you pay anything.
Do you qualify?
These are the published minimums. Whether your profile fits — with your marks, gap and budget — is exactly what a free counsellor check confirms.
