College Diploma - Library & Information Technician (Accelerated)

The Library & Information Technician (Accelerated) diploma delivers the full curriculum in twelve months of continuous study, for applicants who already hold a related credential.

Content matches the two-year program — cataloguing and classification, metadata and controlled vocabularies, integrated library systems, collection development and acquisitions, reference and research services, information literacy instruction, digital collections, records and archives fundamentals, and public and technical services operations — compressed into a continuous schedule with field placement.

At $25,599 against $17,234 for the two-year version, the accelerated route costs substantially more, and under current rules a shorter program also means a shorter Post-Graduation Work Permit. It suits applicants with a prior degree who want the technical credential quickly and are not relying on maximum permit length; for most international students the standard program is the better value.

The field placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.

Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.

Important: this is a college credential rather than a degree, so it is not exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — eligibility depends on this CIP field appearing on IRCC’s eligible list when you apply.
