Program overview

The Honours Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is a four-year co-op degree that lets students combine study across fields rather than following a single disciplinary track, and at $16,698 it is Seneca’s lowest-priced bachelor’s degree.

Students build a program around a coherent theme, drawing from business, technology, communications, social sciences and applied fields, supported by a common core in research methods, critical thinking and analysis, academic and professional writing, statistics and data literacy, ethics, project management, and an integrative capstone that ties the chosen fields together. Co-op work terms apply the combination in practice.

This degree suits two situations well: students with a clear cross-disciplinary goal that no single program serves, and diploma holders bridging into a degree with transfer credit. It suits poorly anyone who wants a defined professional identity handed to them — the onus is on the student to build a coherent story. As a degree it carries full PGWP field-of-study exemption, which makes it a structurally useful bridge for diploma graduates.

Co-op is a built-in part of this degree, so you graduate with paid Canadian work terms already on your resume rather than competing for a first role with no local experience.

Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.

Seneca Polytechnic — formerly Seneca College — is one of Ontario’s largest public colleges and a Designated Learning Institution. Newnham is its biggest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology, engineering technology, aviation and applied science catalogue. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.

Its field maps to CIP 30.9999 (Multi-interdisciplinary studies). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.

Career opportunities

Outcomes depend on the combination chosen rather than the credential name:

  • Business Analyst — with a business and technology combination
  • Communications Specialist — with a media and social science combination
  • Project Coordinator — cross-functional delivery roles
  • Program Coordinator — public and non-profit sectors
  • Operations Analyst — with a quantitative combination
  • Policy or Research Assistant — with a social science emphasis
  • Graduate study pathway — with a coherent academic focus

Build a deliberate, explainable combination — employers hire the story, not the degree title.
