Master of Artificial Intelligence - Design & Development

The Master of Artificial Intelligence – Design & Development is Seneca’s only master’s degree and, at $30,000 a year, its most expensive non-aviation program.

The curriculum covers advanced machine learning theory and practice, deep learning architectures including convolutional and transformer models, natural language processing, computer vision, reinforcement learning, data engineering and pipeline design at scale, MLOps and model deployment, AI system architecture and integration, model evaluation and validation, AI ethics, bias and governance, research methods, and a substantial applied capstone with a work placement.

Two structural advantages no diploma or certificate can match. As a master’s degree it is exempt from the PGWP field-of-study restriction, and under current IRCC rules master’s students are among the few whose spouses may qualify for an open work permit — verify both against current rules before planning. Applicants need a genuine computing or quantitative background; this is not an entry point into the field.

The field placement is a graded part of the program, so you finish with documented Canadian experience and a referee rather than only a transcript.

Newnham is Seneca’s largest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, with its own residence, library, athletic centre and specialised technical labs. It sits on the TTC network with subway connections, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology and engineering catalogue — which means the widest range of student clubs, services and peers of any Seneca site.

Seneca Polytechnic — formerly Seneca College — is one of Ontario’s largest public colleges and a Designated Learning Institution. Newnham is its biggest campus, on Finch Avenue East in North York, and carries the bulk of Seneca’s business, technology, engineering technology, aviation and applied science catalogue. It has its own residence, a large library and athletic centre, and sits on the TTC network with connections to the subway.

Its field maps to CIP 11.0102 (Artificial intelligence). Because this is a degree, graduates are exempt from the November 2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction that applies to college credentials. Full-time on-campus study and graduation remain the conditions, and IRCC makes the final decision.
