Program overview

A four year music degree combining performance study with theory, history, aural training, ensemble work and a culminating recital or project in the chosen principal study.

Bachelor of Music normally involves an audition or portfolio in addition to academic marks, and the September only entry pattern reflects the ensemble and studio structure of the year.

Bachelor of Music is taught at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, a designated learning institution, so completing Bachelor of Music supports a Post-Graduation Work Permit application of up to 3 years. Canada requires a Provincial Attestation Letter with the study permit application for Bachelor of Music, and the university issues that alongside the letter of acceptance. Every permit decision rests with Canadian immigration authorities, and Apply Study Visa confirms the position for Bachelor of Music in writing before you pay any deposit.

Candidates for Bachelor of Music present Grade 12 or Class 12 with 70 percent. The English requirement is IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, and tuition for Bachelor of Music is recorded at CAD 19,300 a year. An entrance scholarship of up to CAD 5,000 is recorded for Bachelor of Music applicants who achieve a final average of 85 percent or higher, which is well above the entry bar, so treat it as a possibility rather than a discount you can budget for. September only, in 2026, 2027 and 2028. Apply Study Visa manages the Bachelor of Music application, the deposit, the letter of acceptance and the Canadian study permit as one process.
