Program overview
The Master of Arts - Linguistics (Non-Thesis) at Trinity Western University’s Langley campus in British Columbia is a 2 year master's-degree program graduate study of language structure, documentation and analysis.
Delivered with the Canada Institute of Linguistics, the MA offers thesis and non-thesis routes covering phonology, syntax, field methods and language documentation — with dedicated funding available through CanIL, a rarity among Canadian language programs.
TWU teaches in small, professor-led classes on a 157-acre residential campus about 45 minutes from Vancouver, and is a provincially chartered member of Universities Canada — so the credential is fully recognised for employment and further study. Uniquely among Canadian universities, international students pay the same tuition as domestic students, and three intakes a year (September, January and May for many programs) keep start dates flexible.
As an on-campus master’s degree, the program is exempt from Canada’s post-2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction — graduates may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years, and spouses of master’s-level students may qualify for an open work permit under current IRCC rules (final decisions rest with IRCC).
