Program overview

The Dual Program in Film Production with the Bachelor of Creative Arts (BCA) combines Toronto Film School's hands-on 18-month film production diploma with a two-year bachelor's completion at Yorkville University's Toronto campus, so graduates hold both a set-ready technical credential and a full degree.

The diploma phase puts students on set from the start: directing, cinematography and lighting, sound recording, editing and post-production, producing and production management. Students crew each other's projects in rotating roles — exactly how the industry works — and graduate with multiple completed films and a defined craft specialisation for their reel.

The BCA phase widens the lens to the business of screen storytelling: development and pitching, financing and distribution basics, media law, entrepreneurship and audience strategy. This combination matters because Toronto's screen industry hires crew on skill but promotes on judgment — graduates who understand budgets, rights and audiences advance faster.

The Greater Toronto Area hosts one of the largest production volumes in North America, spanning features, network and streaming television, commercials and branded content, and its studios and rental houses employ trained crew year-round. Because the pathway concludes with a bachelor's degree, graduates are exempt from the post-2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years (final decision by IRCC).
