Program overview
The Dual Program in Graphic Design and Interactive Media with the Bachelor of Creative Arts (BCA) links Toronto Film School's fast-paced 12-month design diploma with a two-year degree-completion at Yorkville University's Toronto campus — a roughly three-year route from beginner to degree-holding, portfolio-ready designer.
The diploma phase builds the working designer's toolkit at speed: typography, layout and colour, brand identity, digital illustration, UI and interactive design, motion graphics fundamentals, and fluency in the Adobe Creative Cloud applications studios use daily. Every course feeds a portfolio, and briefs are structured like real client work — discovery, concepts, revisions, delivery — so graduates already know the rhythm of agency life.
The BCA phase then develops the strategic and commercial thinking that separates senior designers from production artists: storytelling and audience psychology, creative entrepreneurship, media business and intellectual-property awareness. Graduates can pitch, price and defend creative work, not just produce it.
Toronto is Canada's largest design, advertising and media market, with agencies, in-house brand teams, publishers and startups hiring designers continuously. Because the pathway ends in a bachelor's degree, graduates are exempt from the post-2024 PGWP field-of-study restriction and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit of up to three years (final decision by IRCC).
