Program overview
BA (Hons) Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation teaches venture-building as a discipline: opportunity recognition, business modelling, entrepreneurial finance, innovation management, digital business creation and growth strategy, layered over a standard management foundation. The CSV source records an unusual structure note — a three-year degree with a one-year extension option — and the course connects into DMU’s enterprise support, including its incubator provision for student ventures.
Assessment is built around making rather than memorising: students pitch real venture concepts to panels, test propositions with actual customer research, build financial models for their own ideas, and can develop a live business as their final-year project. Modules on family business and small-firm growth speak directly to the international cohort, many of whom return to established family enterprises with a mandate to modernise them.
DMU’s enterprise infrastructure gives this degree unusual out-of-class depth: the university’s startup support includes incubation space, seed-competition funding rounds and mentoring drawn from Leicester’s business community, all open to undergraduates, and several student ventures have progressed to trading businesses while their founders were still enrolled. The export’s note of a one-year extension option on the three-year structure is preserved in this sheet’s duration field.
Speak plainly about outcomes: the UK does not hand startup visas to fresh graduates easily, so the realistic sequence is employment first — innovation, product and growth roles at £21,000–£25,000 — with founding later, or returning home where the degree’s toolkit applies immediately to family business expansion. The honours award qualifies for the Graduate Route on completion, at the 18-month term applying to applications from 2027 onward, and dependants cannot join students on taught undergraduate visas.

Career opportunities
Typical first destinations for graduates:
- Startup Founder — several graduates launch ventures via the incubator
- Innovation Analyst — new-product and process roles in corporates
- Business Development Executive — growth roles in SMEs and scale-ups
- Product Assistant — supporting product managers in tech firms
- Franchise & Operations Trainee — multi-site business roles
- Family Business Manager — a common route for returning international students
Reality check: most graduates of entrepreneurship degrees work for someone else first — and should, because the skills that keep a startup alive are learned fastest on an employer’s payroll and budget.
