Bachelor of Arts - Contour Fashion (Honours)

BA (Hons) Contour Fashion is DMU’s internationally distinctive specialism: the design and technical development of lingerie, swimwear, shapewear and performance bodywear, taught across three years through anatomy-aware pattern cutting, stretch-fabric behaviour, precision construction and the fit science that governs garments worn next to the skin.

The course is widely recognised as the leading provision of its kind in Britain, with a long history of supplying designers to global underwear and swimwear brands, and industry involvement is unusually direct — sponsored projects, brand-set briefs, competitions and recruitment contact form part of the ordinary teaching year rather than an extracurricular add-on.

For agents, the single most useful fact about this course is its rarity: very few institutions worldwide teach contour at degree level, which is precisely why global brands recruit from it directly and why its graduates report unusually short job searches. Applicants need a portfolio showing technical curiosity alongside design ideas, and should expect precision work — millimetre tolerances, complex elastication, repeated fitting cycles — rather than expressive studio freedom.
