Who keeps a hospital’s patient records, a bank’s accounts or a city’s utilities safe from intruders? RRC Polytech’s two-year Cybersecurity diploma prepares you to join those defenders, and at the South Winnipeg Campus the programme begins each September. Four terms of study end in a 15-week work-integrated learning term, so the credential combines classroom theory with real practice in security work.

The September cohort opens with IT Foundations, Customer Experience, Networking for Information Security and Security Foundations, then adds Introduction to Security Operations, IT Architecture and Design, IT Service Management and Vulnerability and Patch Management. Communication Strategies and Communication for the Workplace run alongside these technical subjects. In the second year, Security Operations and Security Monitoring, Detection and Response teach you to watch for and contain incidents, IT Security Infrastructure focuses on protecting the systems an organisation depends on, IT Service Delivery links security to service continuity, and Communication for Systems and Innovative Thinking completes the classroom stage.

Instruction relies on simulated environments where South Winnipeg students rehearse the tasks a security operations team faces, from triaging alerts to managing patches. In Term 4 you choose between a co-op, a term of paid or unpaid employment that ties on-the-job experience to classroom theory, or an industry project in ACE Project Space alongside students from other ACE programmes. Bring a laptop that meets this programme’s higher-than-usual specifications, and plan for a criminal record check, which RRC Polytech strongly recommends because employers require one.

Typical first jobs after this Cybersecurity diploma include junior SOC analyst, information security technician, cybersecurity support analyst, IT operations analyst and patch and vulnerability coordinator. The South Winnipeg intake is a good fit for methodical learners who like structured routines, careful documentation and the steady satisfaction of keeping systems running safely for the people who rely on them.
